Nope.

Generally, there is no version of mutt that is recommended for one OS
over another. The general rule of thumb is: the most recent stable
version (currently that's 1.4.2.1i) is recommended for all users on
all operating systems. However, the most recent development version
(1.5.x - latest at the moment is 1.5.17) has MANY improvements over
the stable version, and if you're willing to put up with what is still
a work in progress, then 1.5.17 should work well for you.

For what it's worth, most of the devel folks (and lots of other
people) have been using 1.5.x exclusively for a very long time (i.e.
3+ years) and we get along very well. There are a few minor rough
spots (e.g. header caching can still misbehave in some situations),
but overall, mutt's devel version is quite solid.

There's no "upgrade" process that is distinct from the "installation"
process. The only things to consider are the minor changes that have
been made to the muttrc syntax (check the UPDATING file for details).
For the most part, with the exception of the alternatives command, if
your muttrc worked fine in 1.4.2.1, it should continue to work fine in
1.5.x.

Of course it's the same old story. Truth usually is the same old
story.
